The Better Education for Women in Science and Engineering (BE WiSE) program aims to engage female and female-identifying students in grades 7–12 with exciting STEM learning experiences in partnership with the region's research, industry, and academic institutions. Our primary objective is to spark your interest in STEM by offering opportunities to interact with professionals, expanding your knowledge of STEM fields, and creating a community of young women interested in science through out-of-school activities.

Through BE WiSE, you can...

  • Participate in events designed to deepen your understanding of STEM fields.
  • Engage in hands-on activities, experiments, and interactions with STEM professionals.
  • Meet successful women scientists who share their knowledge and passion about their experiences with science and engineering careers.
  • Be part of a life-long community of women who share your passion for science.
New Members

Welcome to BE WiSE!

Once accepted, female and female-identifying students in grades 7–8 kick off their journey with a welcome event. Imagine 40 middle school girls from different schools coming together to solve a scientific mystery—complete with demos, hands-on projects, and workshops—all led by women who work in science every day. Each group is mixed to help you make new friends and start building your BE WiSE community!

Current Members

We host 20+ events every year just for members in grades 8–12.

You get to...

  • Team up with women scientists.
  • Explore real science and engineering careers
  • Build your network with STEM professionals and fellow BE WiSE members
  • Dive into hands-on workshops

Past events have taken us everywhere—from NASA and the Salk Institute to Comic-Con Museum, Northrop Grumman, the San Diego Humane Society, and so many more.

Alumnae

Upon graduating from high school, BE WiSE members become part of our alumnae community. Graduating from high school doesn’t mean your BE WiSE journey ends—it just grows with you.

As alumnae, you can...

  • Give back and share your wisdom with past, present, and future BE WiSE members.
  • Join future workshops (virtual and in-person) exclusive to alumnae
  • Stay connected with your BE WiSE sisters

Let’s keep the connection going—email us at bewise@rhfleet.org and be part of the alumnae crew!

Do you have a question or would you like to learn more? Feel free to send BE WiSE-related questions at any time of the year.
