The Fleet turns curious kids into happy campers! Our STEM summer camps provide exciting experiments, intriguing investigations and fantastic fun. (Oh—and don’t tell the kids, but they’ll be learning a lot, too!) We have something for all ages, from transitional kindergarten through eighth grade.

CAMP DESCRIPTIONS

TK–KINDERGARTEN

5-day camp, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. 

Fairy Tale Engineering (NEW)
Use your imagination and develop engineering skills as you design and build castles, vehicles, bridges or even flying contraptions. Get ready for a magical experience in planning and problem-solving.

Junior Paleontologist (NEW)
Journey back in time to uncover the mysteries of the past as you dig for fossils, study rock formations and cast dinosaur bones. Discover the science of paleontology while building observation and organization skills.

Space Explorers 
Blast off on an exploration of our solar system and beyond. Discover what it is like to be an astronaut while investigating planets, moons and stars.  

Sensational Senses 
Use your five senses as you create squishy, slimy flubber, invent squeaky noise makers and sniff your way around this zany camp.  
 

GRADES 1-3 

5-day camp, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Bugs, Rocks & the Wild 
Grab your binoculars and safari hat—we are off to explore bugs, rocks and the wild! This nature camp in the great outdoors includes an optional bug-tasting activity.

Energy and Forces  
Hands-on projects let you learn about energy and forces. Build windmills, explore solar panels, create musical instruments and experiment with circuits and electromagnets.

Hands-On Robotics 
Discover how gears, electricity and simple machines work to make robots go. Create circuits and program a Dash robot to follow your commands.

Science, Art and Kitchen Fusion 
Explore the connections between science, art and everyday life. In Chemistry in the Kitchen, learn about the science behind household items and materials. Create masterpieces inspired by biology, physics, math and engineering in Art-ology. This camp is not suitable for children with food allergies.

Science of Magic and Superheroes 
Mix chemicals (safely!), perform super science spells and learn about the powers of superheroes. Discover how principles of friction, magnetism and gravity make superhuman feats possible.

Super Solar System 
Could you skate on the rings of Saturn? Was there ever life on Mars? Unlock the secrets of our solar system in this cosmic class.  
 

GRADES 4-6

5-day camp, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Astronaut Camp 
Practice your knowledge and skills in two different simulated space missions. You’ll experience the teamwork required for a successful mission from rocket launch to planetary exploration.

Magic forMuggles 
The School of Wizardry is in session! Unleash your imagination and creativity while investigating the science behind potions, bubbling cauldrons, astronomy, magical creatures and more.

Maker Camp 
Join the maker movement as you build, create and experiment with a variety of materials and tools. Just bring your imagination!

Survivalist Adventure (NEW) 
Explore the science behind genetics, infection and survival strategies, and develop critical thinking and teamwork skills as you learn how to survive. Discover the power of nature in earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis and other natural disasters. Camp includes optional bug-tasting activity.

Trainer Research Lab (NEW)
Do you want to be the absolute best trainer … scientist? Explore the amazing abilities of Charmander, Geodude or Pikachu—like evolution, electricity and fire—and learn how they relate to the natural world.

5 Day Camp, Full Day 9am-4pm (6 Hours)

Technology Enthusiasts! Form Your Own eSports Gaming Club while you expand your skills in a week of real-world computer gaming and technology fun. 
 
CSI San Diego: Introduction to DNA & Forensics*
Solve your own forensic mystery! In this DNA and forensics lab, you’ll learn about DNA extraction and gel electrophoresis as you become a crime scene investigator. In this DNA and forensics lab, you’ll learn about DNA extraction and gel electrophoresis as you become a crime scene investigator.
 
Game-gineers*
Experience the joy of games with STEAM, coding and engineering, as you learn game design principles and build and code your own video game in a in this fun-filled week with computers, iPads and apps.
 
Movie Magic 
Look behind the scenes to see how filmmakers use science in special effects. Use the principles of sound to become a Foley artist and create practical effects with engineering, ingenuity, and biology to understand how zombies and monsters might occur. 
 
Robot Coder*
Build, code, drive, and experience robots in exciting contests! Work in teams and test your robotics skills with exciting contests throughout the week.
 
Women Scientists in Action
This extravaganza for young female and female-identifying scientists lets you explore the wonders of science and discover the amazing potential within you. With a dive into a different field of science each day, you will do hands-on experiments, interact with local women scientists and explore the exciting STEM careers that await you.

Fleet Science Center is committed to providing a safe and educational experience for all campers. If you are interested in enrolling or have enrolled a camper who made need accommodations, please contact the Camp Manager at publicprograms@rhfleet.org to discuss the specific needs of your camper and strategies that would ensure that your camper has the most engaging experience possible. We also welcome Camper Aides but require all aides who attend camp to clear a background check before camp begins.
