Fleetster Friday: Meet Angel Cortez

Image

It’s time for another Fleetster Friday! This week, we feature City Heights resident and Fleet Science Educator, Angel Cortez. He describes his job as adaptive, fun, collaborative and wholesome. Not to brag, but he told us that his favorite place in all of Balboa Park is right here within the Fleet, the Heikoff Giant Dome Theater.

Complete this sentence: I love science because...

It teaches me about the world around me and helps me engage with youth who are making their own way through this universe of tiny molecules and enormous stars.

If a movie was made of your life what genre would it be and who would play you?

It would be an LGBT coming-of-age film, for sure, with a subplot about the US-Mexico border. Whoever plays me needs to have thick eyebrows.

If you had a time machine, would you go back in time or into the future?

I wouldn't, period. All we've got is the present and I trust myself to move through my own narrative without accidentally collapsing any timelines.

Are you a good dancer?

No, I'm a great dancer!

If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?

Playing an instrument, either electric bass or drums. I'm very musically UNtalented!

Would you rather live in the ocean or on the moon?

In the ocean because I could absolutely pull off being a merman. Outer space is cool, but I love the rock I was born on.
