Fleetster Friday: Meet Andrea Decker

It’s time for another Fleetster Friday! This week, we’re highlighting #LaMesa resident, Andrea Decker. Andrea is Adult Programs Manager at the Fleet and is in charge of putting together events and programs that make science exciting for the 21 and up crowd, like Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar and the upcoming Exclusive Private Screening of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

… it's so darn cool! I mean, why would I not want to know about the latest research explaining the health benefits of dark chocolate, right?! I am in the lucky position that I get to talk to and hear from a lot of scientists and it never ceases to amaze me how a better understanding makes the world around us even more beautiful and fascinating.

Describe your job in four words.

Curiosity, Connections, Support, Beer.

What is your favorite thing in Balboa Park?

That it's one of those rare spaces that combines the outdoors with cultural activities. There are not many places in the world that brings together so many cultural institutions in one beautiful setting that even non-museum goers can enjoy.

If you could add anyone to Mount Rushmore who would it be?

Oh, that is a tough one...so many amazing people to look up to. So instead of going with a high-brow answer, I’ll just go with Harrison Ford because I could look at him forever.

You can have an unlimited supply of one thing for the rest of your life, what is it?

Good books! Because it doesn't matter what's happening in my life, a good book can always make me happy.

If you were famous, what would you be famous for?

For being the unbeaten champion of The Great British Baking Show.

What would the title of your autobiography be?

Raising the Bar for Science!

What’s the most embarrassing fashion trend you used to rock?

A perm! Yep, I did it back in the late 80s.
