San Diego, CA—The Fleet Science Center offers exciting in-person Winter STEM Camps to help keep kids active and engaged during winter break. Students in grades 1–3 can learn about science, technology, engineering and math while experimenting with chain reactions, exploring the tools needed to travel in space and learning to program a robot. 

The Fleet's Winter STEM Camps are offered every day from Monday, December 20, through Friday, December 31 (except for Friday, December 24). The in-person camps take place at the Fleet and feature a full day of fun and educational hands-on activities.  

Winter STEM Camps extend the Fleet's mission of realizing a San Diego where everyone is connected to the power of science by bringing science education to students of all ages in ways that are fun, engaging and accessible. Through participating in winter camps, students' minds stay active, and they learn during the holiday season in an enlightening and enjoyable way. 

Registration for Winter STEM Camps is now open. In-person camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Prices for the first week of in-person camps are $150 for members and $165 for nonmembers, and for the second week are $200 for members and $220 for nonmembers.

Full Camp Descriptions: 

Week 1 

• Monday, December 20—Expect the Unexpected: All science is methodical and predictable, right? Not in this program! Be wowed by science phenomena and how easily your senses can be tricked. 
• Tuesday, December 21—Try, Try, Try Again: Learn what it takes to be a scientist by testing, tweaking and retesting. Complete a variety of experiments and build a tall tower out of lightweight objects to see if you have what it takes. 
• Wednesday, December 22—Space Travelers: Decide what skills and equipment you would need to explore moons, planets and more in our solar system and beyond! 
• Thursday, December 23— Collaborate or Compete: Use teamwork to complete a blind building challenge and collaborate with your group to design a crash test helmet. 

Week 2 

• Monday, December 27—So You Think You Can Fly: The ingenuity of flight is remarkable. Learn the basics of flight and look to nature and other inspirations to pioneer our own flying devices. 
• Tuesday, December 28—Chain Reaction: Use natural forces and your imagination to make something happen. Make a marble roller coaster, a Keva contraption and a Rube-Goldberg device with your class! 
• Wednesday, December 29—Toys in Motion: Open-ended challenges encourage curious minds! Make mechanical toys and learn basic programming skills to direct a small robot through an obstacle course. 
• Thursday, December 30—Maker Mania: Join the Maker movement! Craft and tinker with everyday objects and turn them into your own incredible devices. 
•  Friday, December 31—Science Fact or Fiction? Use the scientific processes and principles to test out myths from television and pop culture.
