Call for Creatives: Art for Planetary Health Invites San Diego Creatives to Explore Environmental Consciousness
The Fleet Science Center is excited to announce the launch of Art for Planetary Health, an initiative aimed at fostering environmental consciousness and community engagement through the arts. In collaboration with local creatives, the project seeks to address the crucial question: What does it mean for our communities to be in harmony with the health of our planet?
Art for Planetary Health invites five creatives from four San Diego neighborhoods to explore this question with their communities through the visual, literary or performing arts. With the overarching theme of the interconnectedness of human health and planetary ecosystems, selected participants will conceptualize and further realize their ideas through co-development and engagement with their communities at local STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) fairs.
After reviewing submissions, the Community Advisory Committee will select one creative from each of the following regional neighborhoods: Barrio Logan, San Ysidro, National City, and the Greater Neighborhoods of Southeastern San Diego. Due to the size of the latter region, two creatives will be selected to represent different neighborhood clusters.
Paul Siboroski, Exhibits Director at the Fleet Science Center, expressed his enthusiasm by sharing, "I am excited to help bring the Fleet and our communities' creatives together to explore and imagine the harmony between human health and our planet's ecosystems, as together we celebrate diversity, creativity and collective action for a healthier future."
Art for Planetary Health will culminate in a celebration and exhibition event hosted at the Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park in October 2024. This event will spotlight the communities' efforts to promote community health and address global environmental challenges.
