The Fleet Science Center announces the 2019 Annual Fundraiser The Magic of Wine

April 11, 2019

San Diego—The Fleet Science Center announces its 2019 annual fundraising event, the Magic of Wine. The event takes place on Saturday, May 11, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Fleet Science Center.

Co-Chairs Loreen Collins and Howard Appel and Co-Chair Gary Parker, founder of the WineSellar & Brasserie, have planned a “magical” evening of wine and cuisine, honoring the memory of Presenting Sponsor Audrey S. Geisel and the Dr. Seuss Fund.

The evening will begin with a reception filled with hors d’oeuvres, wine and music. Guests can try their hands at the Wine Ring Toss and all can partake in the silent auction featuring a variety of impressive wine lots, travel and dining packages and other exclusive experiences.

The reception will be followed a multi-course, wine-paired dinner curated by Gary Parker, founder of the WineSellar & Brasserie, and renowned chef Andrew Spurgin. Gary and Andrew are back by popular demand for the third year running and will once again create a magical and memorable dining experience.

Before the final dessert course is served, guests can support the Fleet Science Center by bidding on five live auction items or by raising their paddles to make a donation in support of the Fleet’s education programs. Live auction items include 2019 Comic-Con International: San Diego badges, incredible vacations to San Francisco and Mendocino, an "Iron Chef Night" with Chef Yapo and an unforgettable experience at the Magic Castle with World Champion of Magic Jason Latimer.

The fundraiser will directly support the Fleet Science Center’s education programs, exhibits and ongoing initiatives. Together with the community, the Fleet is working to realize a San Diego where everyone is connected to the power of science. The Fleet’s many programs help San Diegans develop skills and talents in a dynamic learning environment that supports the region’s scientific identity.

Last year’s gala event generated over $200,000 for the Fleet and its extensive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs. Donations from this event help the Fleet reach more than 475,000 people throughout San Diego County annually and we are grateful for the generous support that makes this possible.
