About the Renovation
As the second phase of our Science Starts Here capital campaign and the first major renovation undertaken since the late 90s, this project is an exciting milestone for the Fleet that will inspire hands-on science learning for generations to come. This renovation will improve visitor experience and expand space for programs and exhibitions by 20% within our existing footprint.
Renovation upgrades:
- Café Expansion - A full-service kitchen, expanded menu, and dedicated ice cream stand (yes, you read that right!)
- New Community Gallery Entrance - A free-to-the-public entrance gallery connecting through the current theater lobby.
- Enhanced Theater Experience - A dedicated queuing and concessions area for the Heikoff Giant Dome Theater.
- Multi-Use Gallery Space - The current entrance rotunda will be transformed into a flexible, engaging exhibition space.
- Basement Gallery Space - A brand new, never-before-seen basement gallery experience.

As a thank-you to our local community, San Diego City and County residents can receive 50% off full-price General Admission tickets on Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28. Discounted tickets are available onsite only and cannot be purchased through the online ticket store. Simply present proof of local residency at the ticket counter to receive the discount.
- What are the hours of operation?

Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Please check our Hours & Admission page for any exceptions or updates.
- What will be open and when?

The exhibit space will be fully available for the duration of the renovation. Craveology Café and the North Star Science Store are temporarily closed for expansion.
- Will food still be available?

Yes! Element 8 Cafe is now open and serving delicious bites.
- Will you still show IMAX® documentaries and films?

Yes! While the path to the theater might look a little different, the film schedule will continue as usual.
- Is anything changing for current members?
