The Fleet Science Center will be open from 12noon to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, December 6 & 7. Free admission is from 5-9 p.m. Friday & Saturday.
Elva De Baca
Elva De Baca is a dedicated educator with over 30 years of experience teaching in the San Ysidro School District. Her passion for inspiring young minds led her to create and lead the Sci Phy program, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at teaching all students in the district the principles of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Her innovative approach to education earned her the prestigious PLTW Outstanding Launch Teacher award, recognizing her exceptional contributions to STEM education. Under Elva's leadership, the Sci Phy program has garnered widespread recognition, receiving numerous state awards for its impact on student learning and achievement. Through hands-on activities and an engaging curriculum, Elva has empowered students to explore the wonders of science and technology, fostering a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom. Beyond her role as an educator, Elva is deeply committed to her community. Through the Trail to Literacy grant, she has spearheaded the creation of vibrant murals in the community park, providing a visually captivating space for residents to enjoy while promoting literacy and artistic expression. Elva's dedication to education, innovation, and community involvement has made her a respected leader in the San Ysidro community.
