The Fleet Science Center hosts full-day and half-day Summer Camps

San Diego, CA—This summer, the Fleet Science Center turns curious kids into happy campers with science-themed summer camps. The Fleet's Summer Camps provide exciting experiments, intriguing investigations and fantastic fun for kids.

 

Weekly full- and half-day camps begin on Monday, June 17, and end Friday, August 16. The camps take place at the Fleet Science Center and feature fun, educational, hands-on activities for kids in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade.

 

In the pre-kindergarten camps, kids will find out how simple machines work and explore buoyancy by building boats. The pre-kindergarten camps are for kids ages 3-5 and all campers must be accompanied by an adult. During the kindergarten camps, kids will explore the solar system and energize their five senses.The pre-kindergarten and kindergarten camps are two hours long.

 

For grades 1-4, each day of camp will incorporate important skills using science, technology, engineering, art and math. Topics include Gross and Gooey Science, Spy Camp, Superhero Science and the always popular Magic for Muggles. Activities are designed to be hands-on, encourage inquiry and make science learning fun and accessible.

 

ThoughtSTEM Computer Science Camps are available for kids in grades 3-6. Each day, campers will work collaboratively and creatively in interactive programming environments.In thesecomputer science camps, students will learn how to customize their own video games by re-programming characters and power-ups from their favorite movies and games, including Fortnite, Pokémon andHarry Potter.

 

Lastly, campers in grades 5-8 will participate in simulated space missions, see what it would be like to become a crime scene investigator and create competition-style robots.

 

Summer camps extend the Fleet's mission of bringing science education to students of all ages in ways that are fun, engaging and accessible. By participating in summer camps, students' minds stay active and learning during the school break through activities that are both enlightening and enjoyable.

 

Half-day camps are offered each week, with morning or afternoon options. Morning camps run from 9 a.m. to noon and afternoon camps are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Prices for the week-long camps are $165 for nonmembers and $150 for Fleet members. The half-day computer science camps run select weeks from July 8 to August 9. Weekly rates are $220 for nonmembers and $205 for Fleet members.

 

Full-day science camps are also available on select weeks to accommodate serious science enthusiasts. Camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Weekly rates are $295 for nonmembers and $265 for Fleet members. The Fleet can also coordinate midday trade-offs to other half-day summer camps in Balboa Park. Staff members escort kids from one camp to another during a supervised lunch hour.

 

Additionally, the Fleet now offers extended day services during summer camp. Early drop-off is available 8-9 a.m., and late pickup is 4-5 p.m. For an additional $20, families can choose one or both options to meet their scheduling needs.
