STEM in the Community: Lemon Grove

Two young women in hijabs inspect a robotics craft at a Fleet Science Center booth within the community.

San Diego STEAM leaders bring together in-school and after-school learning.

We’re seeing positive progress in K–12 education, especially in terms of whole community involvement. Case in point: Thriving Students Lemon Grove brings together leaders in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math to then connect school-day programming with after-school programming. The program’s students and their families largely will drive the format and content.

STEM in the Community: National City

You already know that the Fleet Science Center takes very seriously its mission of connecting people of all ages to the power of science. But how much do you know about its community-centered science initiatives?

Let us introduce you to Wraparound Services for STEM Learning (WSSL), one such initiative.

The Fleet Science Center’s High Tech Fair Connects Students to Scientific Careers

By Brianne Brown

More than 2,500 middle and high school students explore local careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) at the Fleet Science Center’s annual High Tech Fair. The event allows students to explore the real-life application of the science they learn in their classrooms to a career in a science- and technology-related industry.
