Science Around the World

After over ten years of working at the Fleet Science Center, Director of Human Resources Candi Freed was able to retire. As a going-away gift and in recognition of many years of faithful service, Candi was gifted a Fleet membership upon her retirement, a benefit that has allowed her to visit not only the Fleet, but many other science centers around the world.

The Fleet Is at Comic-Con!

Comic-Con San Diego

By Karla Nafarrate

Because you can’t have “science fiction” without “science”.… This year, the Fleet will be hosting not one, but two separate panels at Comic-Con International: San Diego.

Have you ever wondered if (or when!) computers will take over the world? Or how science-fiction ideas or inventions become reality? Let’s discuss these topics at Comic-Con! Don't miss our panels:

Artificial Intelligence

July 21, 4:30–5:30 p.m., Room 24ABC

America's New Astronauts

After evaluating a record number of applications, NASA will introduce its new astronaut candidates on Wednesday, June 7, at noon (local time) from the agency’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The announcement will be broadcast on NASA TV, and you can also watch it live at https://www.nasa.gov/nasalive/.

What Is Topology?

Taping Shape

By Kanaga Rajan

You may think our exhibition, Taping Shape, is all fun, no science. Well, it certainly IS fun, but it’s an excellent study of topology. Topology is a field in math that studies the geometric and spatial properties of shapes that are maintained after deformations such as stretching or twisting.

Evidence for a Ninth Planet

The six most distant objects in the solar system (magenta) all mysteriously align. Planet Nine, if it had 10 times Earth’s gravity and an anti-aligned orbit to these distant objects (orange), would explain these paths almost perfectly. (Image: Caltech)

By Dr. Lisa Will, Resident Astronomer at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center

You may have heard that there is evidence of a possible new ninth planet in our solar system, but what exactly does that mean? What evidence was found?

Connect With NASA

Space: by NASA

There are a ton of ways you can connect with NASA—from taking spacey selfies to helping scientists search for black holes—and all you need to get started is an Internet connection!
