Fleetster Friday: Meet Marla Andrade

It’s Fleetster Friday! This week we’d like you to meet Mission Bay resident, Marla Andrade. As our very own Studio X Coordinator and CAD Designer, Marla’s creativity shines all throughout the Fleet. If you’ve ever had the opportunity to put your creative skills to the test in Studio X, you have Marla to thank as she designs most of the studio’s activities. She also played a crucial role in the design and production behind our newest exhibit, Pause|Play, along with our Exhibits team. Make sure to take a break from your busy life and check out Pause|Play, because it’s now open daily at the Fleet!

  • Complete this sentence: I love science because…

It’s endless! I love to learn and I’ll always consider myself a student before anything else. And, science is about discovering something new every time.

  • Would you rather travel back in time to meet your ancestors or to the future to meet your descendants?

Future, I don't look back.

  • Why did you decide to do the work you are doing now?

Because, I saw plenty of room for growth. It was something new for me that I saw a lot of potential in. Also, it was going to allow me to stay creative and think outside of the box constantly. I wanted to be challenged on a daily basis.

  • Describe your job in four words.

Creative, challenging, fun and versatile.

  • What is your favorite thing in Balboa Park?

The architecture! I love that you can walk through such a historical part of San Diego.

  • If you could live in any country, where would you live?

This is a hard one for me. The place changes as I'm exposed to more cultures. For now, I will stick with Australia.
