San Diego, CA-- This summer, the Fleet Science Center turns curious kids into happy campers with science-themed summer camps. The Fleet's Science Summer Camps provide exciting experiments, intriguing investigations and fantastic fun for kids.

Weekly full- and half-day camps begin on Monday, June 18, and end Friday, August 10. The camps take place at the Fleet Science Center and feature fun, educational, hands-on activities for kids in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade.

In the Pre-Kindergarten Camps, kids will find out how simple machines work, explore buoyancy by building boats and create projects that utilize their five senses. The Pre-Kindergarten camps are for kids ages 3–5 and all campers must be accompanied by an adult. Camps are 2 hours long.

For grades 1-4, each day of camp will incorporate important skills using science, technology, engineering, art and math. Topics include Gross and Gooey Science, Spy Camp, Superhero Science and, the always popular, Magic for Muggles. Activities are designed to be hands-on, encourage inquiry and make science learning fun and accessible.

For grades 4-8, the Fleet partnered with ThoughtSTEM to host Computer Science Camps. Each day campers will work collaboratively and creatively in fun, interactive programming environments. In this camp, students will learn how to customize their favorite game by re-programming creatures and entire worlds of Minecraft, learn about Java Programming and even develop their own Android App.

Summer Science Camps extend the Fleet’s mission of bringing science education to students of all ages in ways that are fun, engaging and accessible. Through participating in summer camps, students’ minds stay active and learning during the school break through activities that are enlightening and enjoyable.

Half-day camps are offered each week, with morning or afternoon options. Morning camps run from 9 a.m. to noon and afternoon camps are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Prices for the week-long camps are $160 for nonmembers and $145 for Fleet members. The Fleet can also coordinate midday trade-offs to other half-day summer camps in Balboa Park. Staff members escort children from one camp to another during a supervised lunch hour.

The Fleet also offers full-day Science Camps on selected weeks to accommodate the serious science enthusiasts. Camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Weekly rates are $290 for nonmembers and $260 for Fleet members.

Last, the half-day Computer Science Camps run select weeks from June 18 to July 27. Weekly rates are $215 for nonmembers and $200 for Fleet members.
