Fasten Your Seatbelts: Going Places Has Arrived at the Fleet Science Center

The exciting traveling exhibition opens at the Fleet Science Center on February 12.

January 24, 2022

Ride a mini hovercraft, guide a blimp through sky hoops, race on a recumbent bicycle and more!

San Diego, CA—The Fleet Science Center announces the arrival of Going Places: The Technology of Transportation, a new exciting exhibition opening on Saturday, February 12, 2022. Created by the renowned Scitech in Perth, Australia, Going Places explores the technology humans have developed for travel.

Where did you go today? How did you get there? Did you walk or cycle? Did you take a plane, train or boat? What about a parachute, airship or rocket? Humans have developed many modes of transportation to get around much faster than our legs could ever take us, opening our world so that travel is possible like never before.

Going Places explores how different modes of transportation have shaped society through hands-on and challenging interactive exhibits, including riding a hovercraft, racing a friend on a recumbent bicycle or learning to fly an airship. This exhibition allows everyone to be in the pilot's seat, providing the chance to experience transportation in ways never dreamed possible.

Going Places is an exciting adventure with over 20 exhibits and information kiosks detailing the incredible technology pioneered by humans to make the farthest reaches of our planet accessible. In this exhibition, visitors observe, understand and use the incredible range of travel technology to see how it makes our lives better.

"This exhibition demonstrates how mankind has developed new technology to overcome obstacles such as gravity and distance while providing great fun for visitors of all ages," says Paul Siboroski, Exhibits Director at the Fleet Science Center.

Going Places highlights the size of the Earth and demonstrates how natural processes—like gravity, wind, currents, waves, friction and changing landscapes—are overcome by the ingenious designs that have been developed over time. This exhibition takes a closer look at modern technology and gives visitors a glimpse of where our future is headed.

"Human modes of transportation have changed so much in just the past 150 years. It is exciting to present an exhibition that allows visitors to dive deep into these innovations, get behind the wheel (literally!) and speculate on where we will go in the next 150 years," said Tom Zaller, President and CEO of Imagine Exhibitions. "We are proud to partner with Scitech to bring Going Places to the Fleet Science Center."

Going Places opens Saturday, February 12, and will be on view at the Fleet Science Center through August 24, 2022. This exhibition is included with admission to the Science Center.

Going Places was developed by Scitech in Perth, Australia, and produced by Imagine Exhibitions.
