We had a great time and we hope to see you again next summer! The Fleet turns curious kids into happy campers! Our science-themed summer camps provide exciting experiments, intriguing investigations and fantastic fun. (Oh—and don’t tell the kids, but they’ll be learning a lot, too!) We have something for all ages, from Pre-K through 8th Grade. Summer camp topics vary each year but check out the list below for previous topics.

Virtual Programs with the Fleet!
Camps from the comfort of your own home! The Fleet Science Center is now offering Virtual Programs. Each camp virtual class will be filled with challenges, hands-on activities that can be done using materials found in your home and has challenges aimed for students in grades 2–4. With 4 topics per week, students can explore an array of fields including biology, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, physics, robotics and much more! Sign up for one or bundle a week together and save!
Each Virtual Program includes:
- Prepackaged materials ranging from craft supplies to specialty items packed by our Science Educators
- Additional Educational content and challenges
- Video content that introduces the challenge and provides strategies for caregivers in confidently facilitating these activities. Designated live virtual weekly meetings with a Fleet Science Educator to keep everyone connected, share results and ask questions.

Materials Pick Up
Curbside pick-up for camp materials will be available on Fridays at the Fleet Science Center from 9:30-10:00a.m. and 3:00-3:30p.m. Pick-up will be located at the Business Entrance on the south side of the building, adjacent to the parking lot. To get to the South entrance from Park Boulevard, turn on Space Theater Way and make an immediate right into the parking lot adjacent to the building. The Fleet Science Center is located at 1875 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101.
Only the 4 kits of the week will be available at a time.

Please note: Virtual programs are not a replacement for parental supervision, and we cannot assume responsibility for your child. Art-ology
Discover the connection between science and the arts in this fun filled STEAM camp! Create, construct and craft masterpieces inspired by biology, physics, math, and engineering.
Coding Concepts
It’s never too early to start coding! Campers will discover basic coding concepts both on screen and off through hands-on activities that make coding fun and interactive.
Gross & Gooey Science
Ewww! What’s that? Explore the science of everything slimy, gooey and gross. Make your own gooey concoctions to take home.
Bugs, Rocks & the Wild
Grab your binoculars and safari hat—we’re off to explore the wild! Discover fascinating facts about bugs, rocks and the great outdoors.
Energy Explorer
Light up your day and get noisy! Delve into the world of light, sound, motion and more. Learn about the many forms of energy while building windmills, investigating solar panels, designing musical instruments and creating chemical reactions.
Superhero Science
Faster than a speeding comet, more powerful than a locomotive, it’s Superhero Science! Join us for a behind-the-mask look into the powers of your favorite superheroes. You’ll discover how friction, magnetism and gravity play a role in super-human feats. For added fun, come dressed as your favorite superhero character.
Super Solar System
Can you skate on the rings of Saturn? Was there ever life on Mars? Unlock the secrets of our solar system in this cosmic class. Learn why the seasons change on Earth and why the sun is so important to our everyday lives.
Chemistry in the Kitchen
See regular household items in a new and exciting way! Working with many materials found in an average home, we will interactively demonstrate many of the amazing science possibilities of our everyday lives.
Wizards' Workshop
Use science to simulate the magic of your favorite sorcerers from books and movies. We’ll mix up chemical concoctions and perform super science spells that are sure to amaze your friends and family. You won’t believe your eyes!
Construction Crew
Grab your hard hat and join us for a camp devoted to the science of construction. Use the KEVA planks from our Dream! Design! Build! exhibition to design the tallest tower or build the longest bridge. Return to the classroom to build castles, boats and buildings out of unexpected materials.
Spy Camp
Calling all secret agents! Create mysterious messages to conceal your identity and explore the tools that make James Bond so sneaky. Come join us on this Mission Impossible!
Forces Everywhere!
Have fun with invisible forces all around you! In this electrifying class you will create homemade circuits, electromagnets and experiment with motors. You’ll be shocked by how much you learn!
Grades 3–6+
Magic for Muggles
The “School of Wizardry” is in session! Unleash your imagination and creativity while investigating the science behind potions, astronomy, magical creatures and more.
Space Camp
Blast off in this exciting camp to gain knowledge about our solar system and beyond! Explore fascinating moons and find out how astronauts live on the International Space Station.
Young Tinkerers
Have you ever wondered how a toaster toasts or what a computer looks like on the inside? Get ready to disassemble and tinker with household objects in this hands-on class. Tools provided—just bring your imagination!
Extreme Earth
Learn about earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis and other natural phenomena! Discover how science experts try to understand our dynamic earth and try to predict the future.
Cool Chemistry
This camp has cool chemical tricks for any student’s repertoire! Marveling at dry ice, examining acids and bases and characterizing chemical reactions make this class a fun, messy favorite!
Robotics Camp
Can you design a machine to do your homework? Well, maybe not, but in this challenging class you will work in teams using LEGO Mindstorms, Ozobots and more to construct and program competition-style robots to perform complex tasks. Test your robotics skills with exciting contests throughout the week.
eCamp
Calling all technology enthusiasts! Spend your week working with computers, iPads and apps. Work on your computer programming skills by building a PicoCricket robot!
Young Engineers
Design, construct and test your engineering masterpieces. Use the planks in our “Block Busters!” exhibition to design the tallest tower or build the longest bridge. Return to the classroom to build castles, boats and buildings out of unexpected materials.
Grades 3–6
Movie Magic
Take a behind the scene look at how science is used in movies! Use principles of sound to become a Foley artist, create practical effects with engineering, ingenuity and biology to understand how a zombie might occur and so much more!
Grades 4–6
Chemistry With a Bang!
Explore the basics of chemistry through loud, colorful and shocking activities. Create chemical compounds, analyze acids and bases, make things glow and whip up a few “explosive” reactions.
Astronaut Camp
Campers will put their knowledge to the test in two different simulated space missions as they experience the teamwork skills required for a successful mission from rocket launch to planetary exploration.
Maker Camp
Join the Maker movement and craft, tinker and create your own devices. What will you make?
CSI
Become a Crime Scene Investigator in this thrilling class! Search for clues, collect evidence and solve a crime!
Grades 4–8
Women Scientists in Action
Girl power! Join us for an all new “science sampler” just for girls. Each day we’ll explore a new field of science. You’ll interact with local women scientists, participate in incredible hands-on experiments and investigate careers in science.
Unseen Science
Take a closer look at the world around you–you might be surprised at what you find! Explore Nano science, learn microscope techniques and slow things down with your own time-lapse videos.
