Explore the body’s most fascinating organ with Brain: The World Inside Your Head

January 21, 2020

A new exciting exhibition opening February 1, 2020, at the Fleet Science Center.

San Diego, CA— Get ready for a hands-on and up-close look at the human body’s most essential organ with Brain: The World Inside Your Head. Making its way to the Fleet Science Center on February 1, 2020, this fascinating exhibition explores the mechanics and mystique of the brain.

Was Einstein’s brain bigger? What brain disorder afflicted Abraham Lincoln? Is there a fine line between genius and mental illness? Separate facts from myths in this intriguing exhibition. Designed to appeal to audiences of all ages, Brain: The World Inside Your Head employs innovative special effects, 3-D reproductions, virtual reality, hands-on learning activities and interactive technology to delve into the inner workings of the brain.

In Brain: The World Inside Your Head, visitors walk into a shimmering tunnel, the midst of a functioning human brain, where flashing fiber-optics illuminate networks of neurons firing and communicating. Next, a gallery of animal brains prompts basic questions: How is our brain the same as those of other animals? How are we different?

From this dynamic beginning, visitors dive deeper into the brain to discover its basic workings and how all brain function begins with neurons and synapses, electricity and chemistry.

Brain: The World Inside Your Head invites visitors to explore the revitalizing nature of sleep and the process of individual brain development. A look back through history demonstrates the evolution of the brain and the bizarre story of Phineas Gage, which is followed by a look into today’s amazing brain imaging technologies.

In this exhibition, visitors also explore the relationship between depression and creativity, how drugs work in the brain and the nature of pain. Along the special journey, visitors encounter the future of brain treatments in a new era of genome mapping and molecular medicine and delve into the most mysterious aspect of brain investigations and the nature of consciousness. By the end of this interactive adventure, visitors will enjoy a new appreciation of the most fascinating organ, the brain.

Brain: The World Inside Your Head will be at the Fleet Science Center from February 1 through April 26, 2020. This exhibition is included with admission to the science center.

Brain: The World Inside Your Head is made possible by Pfizer Inc, and was produced by Evergreen Exhibitions of San Antonio, Texas, in collaboration with the National Institutes of Health.
